I am currently accepting new students! I teach out of my home in west Knoxville. I may be willing to travel, depending on your location. If I travel, there may be a surcharge, and you’ll be informed of this ahead of time.
AND I also have capability to teach via Skype. If you are interested in that, please contact me. The rates below will apply, and we can do a free introductory session to check audio and video quality. I’ll be developing this site to include a video section, so keep an eye out for that.
I offer reedmaking classes and lessons as well, and I also coach chamber music, whether or not there is an oboe in the ensemble.

Resources for students:

  • free online metronomes - there really is no excuse now. . .
    • Seventhstring.com - Interesting metronome. Its "click" sound is a recorded old-fashioned wind-up metronome. Runs as a Java applet, so may not be the best if you have issues with Java.
    • Metronomeonline.com - My favorite interface, pleasant click, and the best-functioning of the three, in my opinion. Also has downloadable applications for your mobile phone, for a small fee.
    • Bestmetronome.com - Nice interface, with simple, accessible, and advanced options. Nice click, lots of interesting features with each option.

  • free online tuners - SERIOUSLY. NO EXCUSE.
    • Seventh String - Nice interface, looks easy to set up, and you need to have a microphone set up on your system.
    • Also check the iPhone/iPod, Android, and BlackBerry App Stores! There are many, many apps available for tuning & timekeeping.

  • music recording freeware
    • Audacity - Very handy application. Recording and editing capability.

  • free sheet music resources
    • Free-scores.com - A UK-based website with an extensive public domain collection.
    • 8notes.com - A slightly more limited collection, but may be useful.
    • The International Music Score Library Project - A VERY extensive collection of solo works, chamber music, orchestral, choral, and opera scores. Some works even have orchestral parts available. This is an EXTREMELY valuable resource. You should bookmark it now.
