The Colorado Reed Company

NEWS:

  • I am happy to report that I am now making reeds on a full-time basis. This means faster, better service for those who order or have questions. This also means that I am going to start expanding my marketing and advertising efforts and will be hoping to expand my customer base. If you know anyone who needs reeds, please send them my way.

  • I'm now offering Pisoni and Rigotti cane, in addition to my usual selection.

  • I'll be at the IDRS convention in Provo this year, from July 22-26. I'm not exhibiting (Because it's my first convention! Can you believe that?), but will bring plenty of reeds with me. Let me know if you would like me to fill an order for you there, or if you would just like to meet face-to-face!

Welcome to The Colorado Reed Company. I provide handmade oboe and English horn reeds to professionals, students, and anyone in-between who wants a high-quality reed without having to go to the trouble of making it.

You may have been redirected from my old site, www.jloboereeds.com. If you have a bookmark set, please update it. Thanks!

I have 17 years of experience making oboe reeds, and it's something I enjoy tremendously! I have a Master of Music in Oboe from the University of Northern Colorado, where I studied with Peter Cooper. Since 2004, I have been an active freelance musician and teacher here.

My reeds have a pleasant tone that is neither too dark nor too bright, with a good response and stable pitch. I tie them on the best cane available to me, always on a silver staple with natural cork. English Horn reeds are tied on a high quality brass staple, because I like the tone of brass rather than silver for English Horn.

I also offer processed cane and reed blanks, and am happy to customize reeds and blanks as you wish. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions.

To read about me in a little more detail, I've provided a link to my résumé below.

My Oboe Résumé

I also offer my reeds for sale on eBay. If you'd prefer to buy there, follow this link. (Though, eBay changed their fee structure and I don't particularly like it. I probably won't be selling much there from now on.)

Now, since I will have the time it takes to develop new products, such as a student line of reeds; or to offer new merchandise, such as reed-making tools; or to offer tips on what cane to buy or how to adjust your reed, you'll want to subscribe below to my announcement list to receive all this information.
