Reeds and Cane
Cane
- Chosen from :
- Le Choix du Roseau Chantant from Le Roseau Chantant in Lyon (limited availability)
- K. Ge (limited availability)
- Ghys
- RDG R/GO
- Vandoren
- Pisoni
- Rigotti
- Gouge: I use an RDG machine, set to gouge at .47-.49mm on the sides, and at .57-.59mm in the center
- Shape: Mack-Pfeiffer reproduction
Oboe Reeds
- Staples: Stevens, nickel silver, 47mm
- Scrape:
I tie at 72.5 mm, and the scraping is done over a period of 2-3 days. Reeds change considerably in their early stages, and if they have a couple
of days to settle in, then the reed will actually be finished when it gets to you, and less (or no) "breaking-in" time is needed.
- Available in Soft, Medium-Soft, Medium, Medium-Hard, and Hard. For more detail on reed strengths, read my reed strength guide.
English Horn Reeds
- Cane: Ghys, Rigotti, or Le Roseau Chantant, bought gouged
- Shape: RDG -1
- Staples: Lorée or Rigotti, brass, 27mm
- Scrape: English Horn reeds usually take a little longer to settle, but they last much longer than an oboe reed. Depending on the piece of
cane, I take between 3 and 5 days to finish an English Horn reed.
If you like my reeds and are interested in setting up a regular subscription, please email me and I'll get that going for you.
Return Policy: My reeds are absolutely guaranteed. If you do not like them for any reason,
or if they arrive damaged, contact me within one week of receipt and I'll resolve your problem. I will either send new reeds,
fix the ones I sent you, or issue a full refund - your choice.
